Philippians 1–4. Find Solutions in the Scriptures to Life’s Challenges

For each of the following common challenges, write the counsel from Philippians that you would use to resolve it:

People sometimes argue and complain over petty matters in church meetings or throughout the week (see Philippians 2:1–8, 14–15).

• These scriptures tell us that we should be "like minded in all things" and be of one accord. They also tell us to not dispute. We should esteem others above ourselves.

Many youth feel that their parents’ testimony is sufficient for them. Since they have good parents, they rely on them for all their spiritual strength (see Philippians 2:12–15 and institute student manual commentary for Philippians 2:12, “Work out Your Own Salvation with Fear and Trembling” [pp. 361–62]).

• These verses tell us that we need to " work out our own salvation with fear and trembling." We need to be able to stand on our own two feet and have our own testimony. Our parents won't be there for us when judgement day comes. They can't give us their testimonies. We have to have our own foundation and work out our own salvation.

An investigator is considering joining the Church, but his family will no longer associate with him if he does (see Philippians 3:7–16; 4:13).

•   These verses give us strength because they say that it's okay that we suffer for Christ's sake. Yes it is hard but it will all be worth it. The knowledge we gain of Christ far outweighs the consequences of joining the church. Having your family disown you is a difficult thing, but you will be blessed if you follow the savior. "We can do all things in Christ."

How is this writing assignment an example of the principle taught in 2 Nephi 32:3?

• This scripture teaches that we should feast upon the words of Christ because they will tell us all things that we should do. With this assignment we did just that. We reviewed the verses and told about the advice that the verses gave in order to solve these issues. We were given the opportunity to "feast" and then we explained the things "that we should do" according to these scriptures.
